Southern Living House Plans With Porches – The 2019 Southern Living Idea House is now closed. This has been a great project for Crane Island and we had over 15,000 visitors testifying about this remarkable home. The home was a great collaboration between Historical Concepts, Heather Chadduck and Riverside Homes. We’re sorry we can’t take you on a tour, but the ideas and inspiration live on in the images below and the project background.

Hawthorn Cottage is a simple, yet whimsical, T-shaped layout that includes an inviting patio and all the other essentials you could want for a truly tropical getaway. One of the most wonderful features of this residence is the tastefully vaulted great room. The tall windows that let in natural daylight, along with the exposed beam work, allows the great room to live large and dazzle its guests. A screen terrace is a large extra living room that takes advantage of the good weather and beautiful views. This plan is perfect for the downsizer or the vacationer who needs a beautiful yet modest home to enjoy the summers and weekends and escape the hustle and bustle of life.

Loblolly Cottage is a stunning layout that boasts beautiful views from every room in the home. The open concept kitchen/dining room opens into a spacious great room that leads to a wrap around patio. A double fireplace gives its owners the flexibility to enjoy the sound, smell and warmth of an open fire, no matter what the weather. Details such as the spare gate and building brackets are some of the many details that make this cottage special. The main floor also has the master suite, office, laundry room and half bath. Upstairs you will find two additional bedrooms and two full bathrooms with great views. This plan is perfect for both infill lots or expansive properties with spectacular views.
Alder Cottage is the perfect home for entertaining guests. The large kitchen opens to a spacious great room with bar that leads out to the screened porch. This definitely enviable kitchen has a large walk through pantry. The first floor also offers an ample master suite and a second guest suite or mother-in-law suite. The second floor has two bedrooms and a full bath, a cozy sitting room and a bench right by the stairs ideal for built-in storage.
Evergreen Cottage has a simple floor plan that opens to a beautiful patio that is ideal for enjoying with guests. The master suite includes separate closets, dual vanities, a freestanding tub and a custom shower. The upper floor consists of two bedrooms, a bunk bed and a loft with a terrace perfect for the children and their friends.

Stunning from every angle, Walnut Cottage features a wraparound porch that leads to an open concept living and dining room with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace. The spacious lower level houses a laundry room and mudroom as well as a butler’s pantry just off the kitchen. The master suite has a walk-in closet, window seat, private bathroom with custom shower, freestanding tub, and dual vanities. Upstairs does not disappoint with four additional bedrooms, three full baths, a den and gallery.
