Sophisticated yet classic and approachable in style, Idea House 2021 will feature river views and a footprint of approximately 5,000 square feet. In collaboration with Southern Living, this year’s home is being created by a team of renowned experts in their fields, including builders Jason Black and Jimmy King of Artisan Signature Homes, Atlanta-based architect Brandon Ingram of C. Brandon Ingram Design, Nashville-based interior designer Sarah Bartholomew and landscape architect Josh Myers of Myers & Co. Architecture. The home will include the work of a variety of artisans and artists from across the South. The house will be located in The Breakers at Prospect, a new 50-acre community showcasing custom homes in coastal, historic and timeless designs.

The 2021 Southern Living Idea House will be the focus of a half-hour TV special that will air over select Meredith television stations in time for the publication of the magazine’s October issue. The show will include insights from the home’s creative team and follow the development of the house from concept to completion. In addition, Southern Living will offer a video home tour experience that will be available at southernliving.com/ideahouse in September.

Tickets will be available to take personal tours this summer, with appropriate guidelines and safety protocols in place. A portion of the proceeds from home tour tickets will go to local charities including the LEE Initiative, the Louisville-based nonprofit co-founded by Chef Edward Lee and Lindsey Ofcacek, and Gilda’s Club Kentuckiana, a cancer support community that provides spend more than 180 free per month. program grants. I love the French doors, the ceiling fans, the dog that seems to be sitting so regal on the front porch. This is a gorgeous house plan full of amazing spaces. I love the clean lines of it, the center hall and the flexibility of the spaces. Not to mention the obvious… the front porch!

This is the Grace Park Cottage (SL2063) by Bridgewater Construction for Southern Living House Plans. This plan is 2,089 square feet with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. I love everything about this plan, but I also love that they thought to include storage, which is in high demand (those of you who don’t have storage will know enough what i mean)! The main floor has a central hall upon entry. Very attractive! The two front rooms are cellars on one side and a bedroom on the other. For Fred and I and how we use space, I would make one of them a den/office for me and Bed #2 I would make an office for Fred. I would use pocket doors so they could be closed during conference calls, etc. but otherwise open, airy and we could talk back and forth.

I would use the upstairs bedroom as a master, but in time I would use Bed #3 – once that time comes, I think I would close off the bathroom access from Bed #2. I would also try to put a shower in the powder room taking away some of the Utility closet space. The dining room, kitchen and bathroom are gorgeous. It’s funny how we all use our homes in different ways. What one person would love to do another person would never dream of doing. This plan is actually great just the way it is!

Upstairs​​​​ has a bedroom with great closet space, a walk in closet, a good size bathroom and a “winter closet” – which I love! Where to wear winter clothes can be a challenge but no more!
