Single Story Modern House Plans – The Frick House is located in Barton Heights, Austin, Texas, USA. Designed for artists Laurie Frick and KRBD, this one-bedroom, two-bathroom home features a 700-square-foot home studio. Due to the Diadora Cypress at the front of the street and the oak tree and swimming pool at the rear, the site is on an infill lot where its original house has been relocated with limited space available.
The architects took these constraints in stride and designed the home using a series of 16-foot steel cubicles wrapped in metal-clad SIP enclosures. Inside this “cage”, the front of the home is clad in tiger wood siding and glass, while the studio has a coloured stucco finish.

The path to the main entrance is created by a row of large concrete pavers that sit on top of the landscape rather than embedded in it.
One Story 4 Bed Modern House Plan With Home Office
The entrance is at the end of the walkway and on the side of the carport, and although the architects did not highlight its location, three specimen snake plants at the end of the carport herald the location.
With a slight push, the door opens, and the homeowner uses the foyer as a gallery space, displaying her art collection above, her book collection below, and her rug collection on the floor.
The living room is at one end of the gallery hall, while the family room is at the other. This is an amazing space from every direction, and I can’t imagine walking through it without stopping every few feet to admire a painting here, a piece of pottery there, or even reading while resting on a bookshelf bench a book.
Stylishly Simple Modern One Story House Design
The entrance is located at one end of the hall, next to the open social area starting from the living room.
A massive glass wall connects the social area to the pool and its terrace, creating the perfect indoor/outdoor lifestyle.
While very little art is displayed in this part of the home, the range of architectural details keeps the space interesting – and of course the bold pop of red.

Outside, the pool houses the kitchen on one side and the homeowner’s artist studio on the other, with a gated glass ventilation duct connecting the two volumes.
Windows within the artist’s studio are kept to a minimum to allow for a large expanse of walls to support the homeowner’s art, but the area is kept bright and bright thanks to skylights and raised skylight sections integrated into the ceiling plan.
The space is large enough to have several paintings on the go at once – each one is separated from each other, allowing artist Laurie Frick to focus on the one at hand.

When it came time to put down the painting, Laurie re-entered her living space through the social area, from where she could walk down the hall, past her master suite before entering the family room.
Her bedroom is accessed through a sliding door in the gallery hall wall, which when opened the maple shelving wall within the room creates a visual continuation of the hallway series.
The master suite only has a skylight so Laurie can display more of her stunning art collection on the walls. The suite also has only one skylight, but this is done for privacy rather than display.
Stunning Single Story Contemporary House Plan
A second door next to the master suite leads to the hallway bathroom. The room is not against an exterior wall, so its light source comes from the skylight overhead. Even with no glass windows on the walls, it’s still a bright and cheerful room, thanks in part to the cheerful use of turquoise in the mosaic tiles that wrap the room and accessories.
At the end of the hall and at the front of the house, the family room is equipped with a home office and overlooks the street and entry walkway.

Bedroom House Plans
Entering the home from the porch, you will find yourself at the center of the living area. The dining room and the (vaulted) living room are completely open to each other, which makes the furniture layout infinitely configurable. A fireplace sets the tone for the living room, and sliding doors lead to the back porch. Just past the dining room is the U-shaped kitchen. Here, appliances are thoughtfully spaced and counter space is plentiful. A corner pantry provides plenty of food storage, and a peninsula connects the kitchen to the dining room.
On the other side of this L-shaped home are the bedrooms and bathrooms. The master bedroom is located at the front of the private residence, away from the noise of the living area. Includes an en suite bathroom and large wardrobe. Between the two bedrooms you will find a second full bathroom and utility room.
