Mid-Century Homes Celebrate Outdoor Spaces Boasting a large number of windows is one of the hallmarks of small mid-century modern home plans. Yet there is a continuous flow between the indoor living space and the outdoor living space. Outdoor spaces often feature gorgeous furniture, accents like fireplaces, and coverings including pergolas and awnings. The outdoor environment is certainly very popular and is seen as an extension of the home. This way, you can feel like you’re outside even if you’re sitting in an indoor living space. Homes like this have a natural beauty and are truly designed as iconic buildings. One story of living space Another key feature of this type of house is that the entire living space is on one floor. Mid century modern ranch house plans feature one story that is a big selling point for many people. Older people often have a lot of trouble with stairs, and there are a number of reasons why some younger people can’t get up and down stairs easily either. When all the living space is on one floor in a ranch style home, you don’t have to worry about getting up and down. It is also safe for your toddlers and small children who are prone to falls and can seriously injure themselves on the stairs. Open Floor Plans Mid-century modern home plans also have wide-open floor plans, which is also a big draw for many people. The open floor plan has a lot of flow as each room flows into the next. This is great for entertaining because everyone can mix and mingle in different rooms but still be very close to each other. In addition, if you are cooking for a large group, you will still be able to talk and interact with your guests while cooking. You don’t have to be locked in a private kitchen. Open floor plans are also great for people with children. You can be in one room doing something and still see your kids in another room. You can make dinner while they watch TV in the living room, or you can fold the laundry in the living room while they toddle in the kitchen. Consider searching for mid century modern house plans for sale as your dream home to build. You’ll get the stunning design you need in a home that’s functional and stylish. Maybe it’s just what you’ve been looking for.

If not face to face, then up close, then on television. They were and are popular in the Los Angeles area and then spread across the country and indeed the world. Close your eyes and imagine the house on THE BRADY BUNCH. It’s a house built to mid-century modern ranch plans. Indeed, virtually any television show set in California or the southwestern United States will feature a mid-century house. Looking at mid-century modern house plans online, the minimalist nature of these homes is clear. Details, decoration and design are clean, with smooth lines. This aspect is so ubiquitous that it has inspired its own furniture and decoration designs. Cluttered Victorian furniture and accessories would look very out of place in a mid-century modern home. Most contractors, builders, or architects will tell you that an open floor plan is the first thing that comes to mind when someone says “mid-century modern house plan.” But what does an open floor plan mean? Open floor plans connect at least two rooms that were conventionally separate rooms in traditional style house plans. Open floor plans create a freer feeling of space while not separating people as much as conventional floor plans. Large, spacious kitchens with plenty of counter space are a typical feature of the mid-century home. Spacious counters are a reflection and indication of the feeling of the entire building and property, a feeling of openness and freedom. It’s the exact opposite of the enclosed feeling of so many homes. Indoor and outdoor spaces united as one This feeling of flowing space carries over into another feature of mid-century modern house floor plans – the sense of a virtually uninterrupted connection between interior and exterior. This is achieved by large windows and the use of sliding glass doors, especially between the living area and the terrace or veranda. Many mid-century modern home plans include a pool; this would be accessible from the connected interior and exterior spaces through sliding glass doors.

The Patio Veranda of mid-century modern homes is obviously designed for maximum use. They are large and practically extend the living room, separated only by sliding glass doors. They are also designed to make the most of the warm climates in which they are often built. (Or from the warm season in milder regions.) They are a combination of indoor and outdoor; nature and humanity. One-Story Homes By definition, mid-century modern homes are one-story. Above all, it could hardly be otherwise. This one story is meant to open to the adjoining patio and other property, a white second story would suffocate the whole idea of a mid-century modern house. The Garage As the name suggests, the mid-century house style became popular after World War II. The post-war American economy grew into a boom that was barely believable
